My Taonga

At school we have been talking about culture for PBL ( Project based learning) . One of the tasks we had to complete was to find and bring our family treasure to school and have a presentation ready to present to our home base . Then as we presented it someone videoed but I deiced not to include this.

My Taonga

My great grandmother Margaret Mary(Peggy)  Monteith ( stanton married name) was born in 1911 and had 4 children called Judith, Elaine, Rob(Robert) and Paul. Her mother's name was  Catherine Lucy Brosnahan (married name Monteith). We don't know when Margaret's mother was born but probably around 1890- 1900.  Margaret was a very hard worker. She was a fortune teller and loved to help people. In about the middle of her life she was arrested for having a crystal ball. While serving her time in prison someone committed  a murder. The police had a lot of evidence but they needed to know who the murder was. This is where margaret comes in, because she was  a fortune teller she had a lot of talents  including seeing back into the past she saw who the murderer was and told the police.  After that the police set her free and she could go back to her family. That's the backstory but back to the actual object,  or should I say objects. The objects I have is some brooches. The reason I told you that story is because that lady Margaret owned the brooches. My mum thinks that some of them belonged to Margaret's mother. All of the brooches are over 50 years old. They all belong to my mum and use to belong to my nana. My favourite brooch is the one with the man walking the dog. I like it because the dog has lots of detail and I love dogs.
