Spectacular Swimming Sports

Last week the whole senior school went to Jellie Park for swimming sports. It was really exiting and was a great time for everyone. We all got to practice our swimming and have lots of fun.  I competed in the 25 meter breath stroke and 25 meter free style. In the breath stroke I got second and in the free style I got 4th! I was really happy with my results.
Question of the day!
Have you ever done swimming sports?
Thanks for reading the blog! See you next time!

Perfect Placement!

One of the first things that we have been focusing on in the Kaupeka hub the year has been greatness and how we can be great. On of the tasks we had to do was to make a place mat. This place mat had five different sections on it. On the four main sections you had to chose 3 people off a list and 1 of your own. Then we had to write about why they were/are great. Here is my place mat:

I chose Coco Chanel as my own because I think she is very inspiring and a great role model to everyone.

Perfect PBL

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance M&Ms for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because we had learnt from the first. We knew that we had to communicate more and we learnt about each other's strengths and weakness.
In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share. Here is mine:
Tech Write Up

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made a what's in the box challenge. We decorated 4 boxes and choose items to go inside. You had to guess what you were touching and then if you got them all right you would get a prize.

Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was creating and designing the products.
Next time I would make sure that someone in my group got the prizes.

WHATS IN THE BOX?

Welcome back to my blog!
This term our PBL (Project Based Learning) has been focused on our school wide market.  Our question is "How can we make a marketable product using the steam approach?". The first step was to make groups. My group is  Grace and Caitlin.  After that we deiced to learn about STEAM.  We found out that STEAM is,
S-Science
T-Technology
E-Engineering
A-Arts
M-Math
After that we brainstormed some ideas about products that me could make. We wanted to do something unique and special compared to everyone else. Our group has made and designed an experience. We are making whats in the box!  There will be four boxes and each has a different thing in them. You have to guess what each thing is. Of you get each one right then you will get to pick a prize. Our game will cost $2 and we will also be selling natural lip balms and lip scrubs for $2 as well.  The market will be on the 4th of December from 10-2. We may sell out so come down as fast as you can! We hope to see you there!

Our Crazy Show!

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. If you would like to know about my personal opinion on culture then go and check out my previous blog posts.

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Maui and the sun, Battle of the Mountains and many more.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organizing the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

For our production I contributed by painting some of the artwork and acting as one of the narrators.

Comment Question: Have you ever done a production?

Stupendous Swimming

Stupendous Swimming

The past two weeks from the 3rd of September too the 14th of September has been our annual school swimming lessons.  On the first day we rode the red bus to the Graham Condon pool. We got sorted into three groups. I got into the highest! I was so excited! We did lessons in our groups for a week and two days. our group did Freestyle, Backstroke, Breath stroke and Butterfly. We also did diving and races. After we finished our lessons in our groups we learnt about swim safety. On Wednesday we got to put on life jackets! We got to swim with them on. On Thursday we got to go on a boat. It was so fun! I really enjoyed our swimming lessons this year!

Comment Question: Do you like swimming?

Welcome back to my CRAZY blog! In reading this week we read an article from Kiwi kids News about Fortnite. We had to identify key words from the text and combine these keywords with prior knowledge to help with understanding of the text. This is my follow up task:

Comment Question: Do you think that the Fortnite addiction is bad?
