The Woods

The paths were lined with weeping trees groaning in the wind. The old leaves
created a soft surface for the animals to rest on. The sun's golden rays filled the
area with light, exposing the birds that nestled within. An orange tent huddled
behind the curvy trees, a black bug net covered the entrance of the tent protecting
the creatures that played inside. The patches of dying grass lined the ground,
mushrooms cuddled together.

That evening as the sun was setting and the forest was coming alive something
emerged from the tent, quickly gathering items from the base of the tall trees. Out
of nowhere an angry red glow appread by the tent. It fought with the wind trying to
stay alive. Cold rocks paved the area it was permitted to be in. Sticks providing
food for the red glow. As the hours passed the glow shrank. The bitter night turned
into a bitter day. The forest was ready to do it all over again.

Introduction

"Never say, "I tried it once and it did not work."" ~ Ernest Rutherford. Ernest Rutherford is undoubtedly one of the most famous New Zealanders. He is the father of nuclear physics and has developed multiple different theories and methods many of which are still used today. To his family he went by the name Ern, but to the rest of the world he's known as Sir Ernest Rutherford. He was knighted in 1914 by the Queen.  If you have a look at a $100 note you might see Ernest Rutherford’s face on there, with a nobel prize around his neck.

Welcome Back!

Today I will be telling you about the work we have done in our class on creativity. We worked on our different ways to use creativity. One exercise we did was when we had to write a list of 100 different ways to use a paper clip. Some of our ones were make a lock pick, hold your socks together, make a friend and lots of other ones. We had to do these with a buddy. We learned how to show creativity better.

Fair Collaboration Relfection

Welcome back to my blog,
Today I will be reflecting on our PBL (Project Based Learning) groups work so far based on some different goals. I think that since the start of the term we as a group have grown our collaboration skills and are starting to work together really well as a group. For me personally I think one goal that I need to work on is: Work highly effectively and interdependently, identifying and using each other's strengths and skills
I think that I need to work on this because at the moment there is mainly only two people in our group doing all the work and I think that even though we have grown as a group we still need to work on this. One goal I think we have worked on well is have highly developed social and emotional skills and an ability to communicate across a range of different people

New Similes

Free Writing

Here is a free writing I did. I hope you enojy it.

The rain got harder as Bella walked along in tears. It had been a hard week for everyone especially Bella. The rainy days quickly turned into weeks which turned into months. The rain hadn't stopped yet and had been going for at least the past 3 months. “Why?” was a question that everyone wanted answered but no one could help with the answer. The puddles grew larger and larger around Bella’s ankles, soaking her brand new converse shoes. The only thing she could think about was what had happened to her just a few minutes ago.  She thought about the reasons why she was standing there and she thought about the good times and the bad times.

 Slowly the rain got harder and harder until it turned into a full on storm. Bella started jogging then sprinting as fast as she could. There was a glimmering white Cadillac speeding down the road. It swerved past the orange road cones coming at full speed towards Bella. Bella gasped and clutched the bag that she was holding on to so tightly her knuckles went white. The white car jolted to a stop just a few centimetres away from where she was standing. A man in a dark black suit with sparkling silver rimmed sunglasses leaped  out of the car and rushed towards her. He spat out a mouthful of words as fast as a cheetah runs when it is chasing after his prey. Bella put her hand up to stop and asked him to repeat himself but this time slower.

Writing Instructions

Welcome Back!
This week we had to pull out a country out of a hat and write instructions on how to do something from that country. I got Tonga and wrote instructions on how to draw the Tongan flag.
Here are my instructions!

How To Draw A Togan Flag

Today I will be giving you the steps to draw/make a togan flag. 

Materials:

Red Marker/Paint

White Marker/ Paint

Piece of  White A4 Paper

Ruler

Step 1: Take your Paper, Pencil and ruler

Step 2:Put your paper landscape way In the top left corner of your paper draw an 11cm horizontal line

Step 3: Now draw a 6cm line to the top of the page

Step 4: You should now have a rectangle in the top left corner of your paper

Step 5: In the rectangle draw a 2x2.5x2 cross

Step 6: Colour the cross in red

Step 7: Colour the rest of the rectangle in white

Step 8: colour the rest of the page in red

Book Review!

Today I am going to be doing an awesome book review! Here it is!

Book: Queenie By Jacqueline Wilson

About: Queenie is about a girl called Elsie. Elsie and her grandmother have a dream of going to the queens coronation. Elsie lives with her grandmother when her grandmother catches an awful sickness. Her grandmother has to go to hospital so Elsie's mother comes and lives with her. Then Elsie is told she has a problem with her knee and has to go to hospital. What will happen to Elsie? What will happen to her grandmother? What will happen to there dream? - Find out by reading Queenie

Rating: I rate this book 4.5/5 Because it gets a little boring at times.

Recommendation: I recommend this book to anyone who likes books about animals and any Jacqueline Harvey books. I also recommend this to people from the age of 7-13.

Brilliant Biography

Welcome back to my blog!! This term we have been working on a biography. We had to chose a person that we think was great. We then learnt all about biography and how to write them. I chose J.K Rowling for mine.   Here's mine;

J.K Rowling 

J.K Rowling. J.k Rowling also known as ( Joanne Rowling) was the writer of many great books. Her
most famous series of all is Harry Potter. She also writes lots of books under the name of Robert
Galbraith. Her parents names are Peter James Rowling and Anne Rowling. She has one sister named
Dianne. J.K rowling is great in many ways. 

She was born on the 31st of July 1965, In England. Joanne attend St Michael's Primary School, and
Wyedean School and College. She was the head girl at her school and received high marks in English.
Her former teacher, Steve Eddy remembers her as being smart but not one of the top students. She has
written some of the greatest book series, she has also donated so much to charities. She is a great role
model to everyone. She used to be a billionaire before donating nearly half of her money to charities.

One of the first big things that happened in J.K Rowling’s life was in 1990. She had just moved from
London and was looking for a flat in Manchester when she came up with the idea of Harry Potter.
She was on a delayed train headed to Kings Cross Station, (You may recognise it) by herself when the i
dea of a boy attending wizard school came to her. Also in the same year J.K’s mother sadly passed
away from Multiple Sclerosis. It took J.K 6 years to finish the first book. Also in this year she started
planning all the other books in the series. A fun fact is J.K wrote most of the book on scrap paper. 


In 1995 Jo finally found a publishing company that wanted to publish her books
. In 1997 the first harry potter book was published. When it was first published they only made
1000 copies. 500 of which were sent to libraries. A year later it won multiple awards. Then Harry Potter
had been bought for movie rights. After that the Queen made Joanne a Officer of the order of Britain.   
A year later Jo published to more very popular books that tie in with the Harry Potter series. 
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and Quidditch through the ages.
After this she released 2 more books. One of which becomes the fastest selling book of all times. 
This book was Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. 


After all of the harry potter books had been released Jo sold so many copies that she decided to write
under a pen name.  Her reasoning for this was she wanted people to buy the book because of how good
it was, not because she had written it.  Even after donating so much money to charity Jo still has an
estimated 700 million pounds. She has a few houses, a few cars and 3 kids to look after. 


She has won about 100 awards. Almost half are for the Harry Potter series but many are for other books
she has written. Over all I think J.K is an amazing person. She is a great role model and teacher. She has
brought joy to so many people's lives and doesn't do it for money.  At the moment J.K is working on more
books and relaxing. 


Overall J.K has a very interesting life. Many people say that she went from rags to riches.
  It took her along time to write the books but it was worth it. Here is a famous quote from J.K rowling; 
“It is impossible to live without failing at something… unless you live so cautiously that you might as
well not have lived at all - in that case you lose by default. “

Perfect Placement!

One of the first things that we have been focusing on in the Kaupeka hub the year has been greatness and how we can be great. On of the tasks we had to do was to make a place mat. This place mat had five different sections on it. On the four main sections you had to chose 3 people off a list and 1 of your own. Then we had to write about why they were/are great. Here is my place mat:

I chose Coco Chanel as my own because I think she is very inspiring and a great role model to everyone.

The Energetic Epro8 Competition

Welcome Back everyone!!!
Earlier this year a few of my friends and I made it into the Epro8 team for our school. EPro8 is an engineering competition.  Here is a piece of writing about this competition,

A few weeks ago I went to the Epro8 heats. The rest of my team was Sienna, Petra and Neila. We were really nervous and really excited. The challenges were hard. My favourite was the dog box. We had to build a structure above the ground. The judge said that they were going to give out points for tidy areas. Our area wasn’t that tidy. We had to clean up really fast! At the end of the heats we had to get into the top 4 to get to the semi finals. We came third. We all got cool certificates. Next up was the semi- finals. We were quite scared about that. We got to the competition and were really excited. The theme was rock band. My favourite challenge was to make a stage. There was a light mounted on either end and they had to flash like a disco! We had to get into the top three this time. We got third again. That meant that we were off to the finals! We were all super nervous! The theme for this challenge was sports. Some of the challenges was to make a rowing machine and a limbo bar! We had to think really hard about making the limbo bar buzz! In the end we came eighth! We were all really proud of our efforts and had lots of fun.
