WHATS IN THE BOX?

Welcome back to my blog!
This term our PBL (Project Based Learning) has been focused on our school wide market.  Our question is "How can we make a marketable product using the steam approach?". The first step was to make groups. My group is  Grace and Caitlin.  After that we deiced to learn about STEAM.  We found out that STEAM is,
S-Science
T-Technology
E-Engineering
A-Arts
M-Math
After that we brainstormed some ideas about products that me could make. We wanted to do something unique and special compared to everyone else. Our group has made and designed an experience. We are making whats in the box!  There will be four boxes and each has a different thing in them. You have to guess what each thing is. Of you get each one right then you will get to pick a prize. Our game will cost $2 and we will also be selling natural lip balms and lip scrubs for $2 as well.  The market will be on the 4th of December from 10-2. We may sell out so come down as fast as you can! We hope to see you there!

Stupendous Swimming

Stupendous Swimming

The past two weeks from the 3rd of September too the 14th of September has been our annual school swimming lessons.  On the first day we rode the red bus to the Graham Condon pool. We got sorted into three groups. I got into the highest! I was so excited! We did lessons in our groups for a week and two days. our group did Freestyle, Backstroke, Breath stroke and Butterfly. We also did diving and races. After we finished our lessons in our groups we learnt about swim safety. On Wednesday we got to put on life jackets! We got to swim with them on. On Thursday we got to go on a boat. It was so fun! I really enjoyed our swimming lessons this year!

The Energetic Epro8 Competition

Welcome Back everyone!!!
Earlier this year a few of my friends and I made it into the Epro8 team for our school. EPro8 is an engineering competition.  Here is a piece of writing about this competition,

A few weeks ago I went to the Epro8 heats. The rest of my team was Sienna, Petra and Neila. We were really nervous and really excited. The challenges were hard. My favourite was the dog box. We had to build a structure above the ground. The judge said that they were going to give out points for tidy areas. Our area wasn’t that tidy. We had to clean up really fast! At the end of the heats we had to get into the top 4 to get to the semi finals. We came third. We all got cool certificates. Next up was the semi- finals. We were quite scared about that. We got to the competition and were really excited. The theme was rock band. My favourite challenge was to make a stage. There was a light mounted on either end and they had to flash like a disco! We had to get into the top three this time. We got third again. That meant that we were off to the finals! We were all super nervous! The theme for this challenge was sports. Some of the challenges was to make a rowing machine and a limbo bar! We had to think really hard about making the limbo bar buzz! In the end we came eighth! We were all really proud of our efforts and had lots of fun.

My Marvelous Maths Evidence

This is my math evidence for my report. The strategy I have used in my poster is called Doubling and Halving. You can use this strategy when you are doing multiplication problems. I think that my poster could be useful when you are teaching people this strategy. I enjoyed making this and hope you like it.
Comment question: Math Strategy. Yes or no?

My Magnificent Volcano

My Magnificent Volcano

The past few days my  Neila and I have been working on a volcano. This term we have been focusing on Maori myths and legends. In our group session we were reading the story, Battle of The Mountains. This was what we chose to do for our reading follow up. Here is how we made it;

The first day we made a volcano shape out of tinfoil and tape. We covered a small bottle in tinfoil and stuck some different sized tinfoil balls to it. Then we covered it in lots more tinfoil.  This took us quite a along time. The shape was inspired by Tongariro one of the main characters in The Battle Of The Mountains. The next day we mixed lots of different colours of paint. We finally got the perfect reddy brown colour. On the last day we made the volcano erupt. This was my favorite part.  I really enjoyed making a volcano and hope that one day I can do it again.

My PBL

Hi and welcome back! Today I am going to be sharing my PBL slide with you. (Please Note this has not be fully edited so there may be some mistakes)  I hope you enjoy this. This term we our main question has been, How can we use our hands, head and heart to create a healthier me? After we discussed this question we rotated round all four teachers and learnt about four different subjects,

  1. Brain Science
  2. Mindfullness
  3. Physical Activity
  4. Nutrition
We chose which one we liked the best and then we carried on our investigation.  We wrote a question and started researching for it. We then made an action plan and filled it out. Down Below is my PBL slide and I will do my action plan is another post.

Acrostic Poem

Yesterday Neila and I made an acrostic poem. We chose to do it about hockey. Hockey is the winter sport that I have chosen to play on Thursdays. We made this after we got back from hockey trails. Go check out Neila's blog.
