Lit Club

Lit club is a club that our school runs for year 5-8. It is run by Mrs Earl and Miss Hansen.  At lit club it is all about books!  You can earn three badges, Bronze, Silver and Gold. To get these badges you have to do a series of tasks like,  Library duties, making a book review or quiz, an author presentation and lots of other things. Sometimes we play games and share books. So far at lit club I have earned a bronze badge and I have nearly earned my silver. Lit club is really fun and even people who don't like books should come along and check it out.

Recipes

This term, we got to choose what we wanted to do for writing. There were a few choices we could choose and here they are:

  • Recipes
  • plays
  • speeches
  • creative writing
  • news report
  • movie and book reviews
  • poems
I chose recipes. The reason why I chose this was because I like baking and making stuff to a recipe.  In recipes we got to make obleck and write our own recipe for our favorite food. On the last day we got to make lolly cake. Overall I really enjoined learning about recipes.  For the next three weeks, we get to chose another topic I chose speeches.
Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this blog post.

My Silent Writing

Welcome back to my blog. Today I have a piece of my SUW to share with you. For People who don't know what it is SUW is Silent uninterpreted writing. We do this for 10 mins after lunch.  Here is my writing:
THE GIRL WHO WAS STOLEN

Olivia Hunter was just like any other girl. Olivia had long curly blonde hair, big bright blue eyes and a huge smile.  Her blonde hair was always tied back in a long plait with a different color ribbon at the end of the beautiful plait (The ribbon would be a different color every single day) . Her eyes were the color of the deep dark ocean.  Olivia wore a different dress each day, today it was a sky blue dress that matched her ribbon. It was a knee long dress with a sweetheart neckline that showed her long, muscled legs. As Well as her arms.

Splosh splish splash. The rain plummeted down on the roof of the high building Oliva called home. She picked up the black glossy TV remote and flashed it at one of the new smart Tv that was hanging on the wall in her room. The Tv turned onto the news channel,  they were talking about some kidnapper that was going around town trying to take all the pretty girls that fathers worked for the bank. Olivia stopped, she was one of these girls. No One had ever called her rich but anyone who worked at the bank was rich. Even Olivia knew that.

Olivia fell backwards onto her big double bed, just as the phone rang. She picked up her shiny pink I phone 7 and slid the button to answer.  She read the name at the top of the phone and gasped. It was the name that had killed her best friend in the world.

Thanks for reading. for those people that want to see a part 2 I will post a few more paragraphs soon.
Comment Question: Did you like my story? Are there any improvements I could make?

PBL Term 3 Reflection

This week we had a chance to reflect on our term 3 PBL. For everyone who doesn't know  what PBL is, it is like inquiry but we base it around one topic and make up our own questions but we have to produce an end product about everything that we have learnt. Last term our focus was on designing a new school hall that benefits our  school and community and here is my reflection:

Reflection on T3PBL     Collaborating in groups

  1. What worked well in your PBL Group?
A Lot of stuff worked really well. Overall our group worked really well together so we had some great ideas and we had heaps of fun

2. How did you make sure that people got to use their skills in the group? Give an example.
Neila is great at writing so she wrote our persuasive writing

3. How did you support others in your group?
I made sure that everyone put their opinion in and was included.

4. How did you fix a problem in your group?
We compromised and put the two ideas together or choose an other idea that was similar.

5. What will you do differently in your new group?
We will make sure that everyone is happy and agrees with our idea before doing it

Thanks for reading this post. I hope you have a great Labour weekend.

Comment question: Have you ever worked in a group? What challenges have you had? How have you overcome them?

Play Eat Learn

At the start of this term our timetable changed. We started doing this thing called play eat learn. So at morning tea instead of eating first we go outside and play then we come back inside then we eat together as a hub. At lunch we also do the same thing but we read a story instead of talking.

Here is a PMI chart of what I think of the knew timetable,

Positive
Minus
Interesting
We get to play for longer
We don’t get as much time to eat
It is new and exciting and different

We get hungry well we play

There is not as much time at code club

As you can see I don't like the new time table as much as the old one but it is different and we have to get used to it. Even though some people like it I don't. Another thing about play eat learn that has been introduced is, think to drink, drink to think. We all got drink bottles and the aim is to drink 2 whole bottles a day.  I will have more on this is another post but thanks for reading and see you soon!

Comment Question: What do you think about the new timetable?

School Trip To Margret Mahy Playgoround And Imagination Staion

On Monday the 21 of August Tumu Hub went to four different places for PBL. Imagination station, Biz Dojo, Core Education and the St Martins Community Center and Hill View School hall.

I went to Imagination station in town. There we split into groups of four or five and we all had a role to play in the group. I was the town banker who got all the bricks. Some of the other jobs were, Mayor, Environment officer and safety officer.  All the jobs were important and had a purpose. After we got our job we had to go and get a base for our town. There was a colour chart were each colour block represented a different building like red was houses. There was 5 other blocks that we could chose what they meant. So after we had chosen what they meant we had to start building. Halfway through we had ran out of blocks so we couldn't finish, but it was really fun.

Something I learnt form building the town was that everything that goes into a building is important for the finished product.

After we had finished at the imagination station we walked down the road to meet the rest of the Tumu hub team at the Margaret Mahy playground. We played and ate lunch there before getting into our PBL groups for a scavenger hunt. Margret Mahy is so cool and we were really lucky to be able to go there.

Have you ever been to Margaret Mahy Playground?

Science Experiment

During writing, the Tumu Hub have been learning how to write up a science experiment. We have been learning how to do this because we are learning about science as part of our afternoon rotation. We need to know how to write up our Question, method, ingredients  and our conclusion in the correct way. We learnt how to do this by doing one of two experiments, the traveling water experiment or the magic milk experiment. My writing group did the Magic milk experiment. While doing the experiment, we were shared a doc that we had to make a copy of and name it for the experiment we were doing. In the doc there were things we had to fill in. Here is my doc,

 My Experiment Doc

I hope you liked my Doc and this post. Tell me about a science experiment?
